A reminder, Apple is once again running a scheme to encourage those in education to buy a Mac, and receive a discount of an iPod in return, which runs for just one more week.
The annual 'Back-to-School' scheme promises the following: "If you’re a college or university student, teacher or education professional, you can use your Apple education discount to buy a qualifying Mac before 7 September, 2010, and get a rebate of up to £130 on an iPod. No wonder they call these the best years of your life." The offer covers the MacBook (£798), MacBook Pro (from £939), MacBook Air (from £1,104) and iMac (from £939).
Those in education need to do the following to benefit from the scheme.
1. Shop for a Mac. Via the Apple Online Store for Education, Apple Retail Store, or call a Mac expert on 0800 072 1154 - lines close at 10 pm.
2. Buy an iPod touch. Purchase a Mac and iPod touch at the same time before 7 September, 2010, to qualify for a rebate of up to £130.
3.Submit your rebate claim - no later than 30 days after the end of the promotion.
Currently the iPod touch 8GB costs £152, so UK customers will need to make up the difference, while the same scheme in the US covers the full cost - $199 - of the entry level iPod touch. Other iPods, including the iPod classic, iPod nano and iPod shuffle are eligible as part of the promotion - details can be found here. That could all change, as Apple is expected to announce new iPods later today, which may go on sale before the deal ends.
Apple notes educational discounting applies to students, teachers, lecturers, administrators or other staff member in education. Customers need to prove they are connected to an University, or other Higher Education establishment, College, or other Further Education establishment, School or any other education establishment. Mac mini, Xserve, Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, refurbished, used and demonstration products are not eligible for the promotion.
