Sources within Apple's supply chain have cast doubt on the company's plans to launch a connected television set any time soon.

Digitimes reckons that Apple is unlikely to launch anything in the second quarter of 2012 "as there are no signs indicating that Sharp is ready to ship IGZO (indium gallium zinc oxide) panels to Apple".

Basing this assertion on what it has heard from anonymous industry sources, Digitimes claims that Samsung and LG are not prepared to make panels for Apple as the two companies plan to make their own connected TV sets.

Apple TV set: What we know so far

The news comes after analyst Gene Munster of Piper Jaffray said that Apple was talking to component makers about parts for a connected television set earlier this week.

Others such as Peter Misek of Jeffries last November said that Apple and Sharp were working together on creating panels for a connected TV set at Sharp's Gen 10 Sakai facility in Osaka and that the device would launch in the summer.
