Nuance Communications, a leading provider of speech solutions, has unveiled Dragon Dictate for Mac version 2.

Formally known as MacSpeech Dictate, Dragon Dictate for Mac is the newest addition to the Dragon family of speech recognition products which includes the recently launched Dragon NaturallySpeaking 11 for the PC and Dragon Mobile applications.

Dragon Dictate for Mac is the first major desktop product for Mac OS X from the company following Nuance’s acquisition of MacSpeech earlier this year.

The software promises to make it easier than ever to create documents and emails, search the web, navigate the Mac desktop, and interact with popular Mac applications – all by voice.

Dragon Dictate for Mac comes with a new streamlined set-up, revamped Mac user interface, and dynamic new voice commands for dictation, editing, navigation and proof reading.

Nuance insists Dragon Dictate for Mac also 'learns' better than any previous version of Dictate, responds faster to spoken commands and supports Dragon Voice Shortcuts for searching the web, email and Mac desktop by voice.

In addition to under-the-hood changes, Dragon Dictate for Mac includes a number of interface changes to accelerate set-up, improve training, streamline customisation of vocabulary and voice commands.

Improvements as a Mac OS X application help commands execute more rapidly, allow user profiles to load faster, and enable interaction with other Mac applications.

"Recognising the important opportunity within the Mac community, we set out earlier this year to bring Dragon to the Mac, working closely with our experts from the MacSpeech team, and drawing on our history and proven success with Dragon," said Peter Mahoney, senior vice president and general manager for Dragon at Nuance.

"We’ve maintained the elements of Dictate that are most important to our Mac customers, such as the native Mac interface, and integrated many features of Dragon NaturallySpeaking 11 to bring improved accuracy as well as smarter command and control capabilities to this discerning audience of new Dragon customers."

Dragon Dictate for Mac, version 2, which comes with the new Dragon 11 engine, will be available at a special launch offer price of £149 - a saving of £30 - from today. The discount deal is offered until 31 December 2010.

Existing MacSpeech Dictate 1.5 customers and Dragon NaturallySpeaking customers can upgrade to Dragon Dictate for Mac for £39.99. System Requirements are an Intel-based Mac with Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard,  Nuance-approved USB microphone for Mac (included with new purchase).
