Palm has confirmed it has sold its one-millionth Centro smartphone as the company changes the make-up of its management team through hiring former Apple staff.
Centro is now available in ten countries worldwide, including Hong Kong, Singapore, India, the UK, Germany, Spain, Ireland, France and Italy, Palm will be introducing the product in additional countries this year.
Smartphones accounted for 11 per cent of all mobile phone sold in 2007 in the US, and this is expected to increase to 35 per cent by 2011. A recent Palm survey of Centro customers highlighted this trend, indicating that 70 per cent are first-time smartphone users.
With Apple taking deep stabs at the smartphone market with its iPhone, Palm has been recruiting senior Apple talent to help it compete with the Cupertino company, most recently hiring head of Mac PR, Lynn Fox, from Apple.
