Quark has introduced a new QuarkXPress licensing scheme tailor-made to help new student designers stake a place in the creative market.

In a step away from existing licensing arrangements practised by large software companies, Quark has changed its conditions to allow student designers to use their education licenses for commercial work.

The company has also allowed students to continue to use their education licenses for the current version of XPress commercially at no charge, and allowed them to upgrade at a discount price after graduation.

Students can now upgrade to the latest version of XPress after graduation at the commercial upgrade price - eliminating the need for purchasing a full copy of QuarkXPress. In addition, students are able to use their Education licenses for QuarkXPress on either Mac or Windows.

Quark has also extended this policy to education licenses for Quark Interactive Designer and Quark Print Collection.

"The International Academy of Design & Technology, Chicago has been teaching our students Quark software skills for well over ten years," said Katie Haviland, Viscom adjunct instructor at IADT Chicago.

"We applaud Quark for its renewed commitment to education and for implementing this program because it will give our students an edge as they graduate and enter the competitive design market."

Quark recently introduced several additional schemes to support the education of young designers, including new pricing for students and educators, training, wider availability of student licenses through resellers such as Amazon and Apple Online, and curriculum development.

"Quark is committed to advancing the education of the world's future designers," said Terry Welty, senior vice president, corporate marketing, Quark.

"By providing graduates with access to the latest innovations of QuarkXPress, Quark Interactive Designer and Quark Print Collection, we give young designers an advantage as they enter the marketplace and further their creative careers."
