For those hoping to buy an iPad mini 2 before Christmas, the deadline for buying direct from Apple's online store has passed. Apple says that you'd need to place your order before 2 December in order to get it delivered on time.
The iPad mini 2 has been suffering from shortages since it launched in November. Ahead of its launch, reports suggested that the iPad mini 2's Retina display is difficult to produce and therefore may mean the iPad mini 2 is in short supply. During Apple's quarterly conference call, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that it was "unclear" whether there would be enough supply of the iPad mini 2 for the quarter.
Customers can order any of the iPad mini 2 models here, but, at time of writing, the dispatch times of every model is reached 5-10 days, hence Apple's early December Christmas deadline.

Instead, the webpage has been replaced by a notice that reads: "iPad mini with Retina display is now available for walk-in purchase on a first-come first-served basis at your favourite Apple Retail Store."
We'd suggest heading to the store early on a weekday if you want to get your hands on one before stock runs out.
You can also try heading to a third-party store such as those listed above.

iPad mini 2 specifications
iPad mini 2: display
The second-generation iPad mini has a 7.9in Retina display at 2048 by 1536 pixels. That's the same number as the iPad Air, Apple's fifth-generation iPad. This means that the iPad mini 2 has a resolution of 326 pixels per inch.
Retina iPad mini 2: processor
The iPad mini 2 is powered by a 64-bit A7 chip like the iPhone 5S and iPad Air. This means the new iPad mini has significantly improved performance. It's up to four times faster at CPU tasks than the original iPad mini, and up to eight times faster at graphics tasks.
Apple has also added the new M7 chip to the iPad mini. It's the same chip as the one found in the iPhone 5S. The M7 chip is a motion coprocessor, which means it can measure the motion of the iPad mini by collecting data from the gyroscope, accelerometer and compass without sucking up the power of the A7 chip.
Retina iPad mini 2: battery life
The iPad mini two still has the 10 hour battery life that the original iPad mini boasted. This is partly thanks to the M7 chip.
Retina iPad mini 2: capacity
Apple has added a new capacity option for the iPad mini 2: 128GB.
So, the iPad mini 2 is available with 16GB, 32GB, 64GB or 128GB storage like the bigger iPad.
Retina iPad mini 2: other features
The iPad mini now has faster WiFi thanks to two antennas and MIMO (multiple-input multiple-output). Apple says the WiFi can be up to twice as fast as the previous iPad mini at 300Mbps.
When it comes to cellular, the new iPad mini has expanded LTE support, too.
The iPad mini 2 sports a 5-megapixel iSight camera (the same as the original iPad mini) and a FaceTime HD camera with an improved sensor for better video calls. There are dual microphones, too, so expect better audio during FaceTime calls, better audio when capturing videos and better voice recognition when using Siri.
Retina iPad mini 2: design
The iPad mini 2 is available to buy in Space Grey or Silver, just like the iPad Air and the iPhone 5S. There's no Gold version, though, but we're quite pleased about that.
The iPad mini 2 is a bit heavier than the original iPad mini. The WiFi only model is now 331g (up from 308g) and the cellular model is now 341g (up from 312g). It's also 0.3mm thicker than the original iPad.
Retina iPad mini 2: accessories
Apple has also launched a new cover for the iPad mini. There' are polyurethane or leather version available.
