The BBC plans to introduce a raft of television shows within the iTunes Store this week, a report claims.

According to The Register, the BBC's commercial arm, BBC Worldwide, will announce the deal this week. Citing television industry sources, the report claims plans to release shows through iTunes will be announced this week.

"Our source says BBC Worldwide's digital media director Simon Danker has contacted the BBC's third party production partners to inform them of the new distribution channel," writes The Register.

It's not yet clear if these plans will supplement iPlayer, though the two initiatives come from different arms of the company. It's also unclear which countries this content will be made available in under the rumoured deal.
