Sky News has sent word viewers have downloaded its free iPhone app more than two million times.
The app, which features a mix of news articles, photos and video content, enjoys 700,000 unique users per week and has been in the top free download chart in Apple’s UK and Ireland App store since launch.
The latest version of the app, which originally launched in May last year, has been optimised for the iPhone 4, and provides enhanced picture quality for Apple’s Retina display found on the iPhone 4 and latest iPod touch.
Sky News also enables users to share stories on Facebook and Twitter, read pre-stored news while the phone is offline, and have the ability to swap between black and white text, a popular user request.
"We’re delighted that this app has been such a runaway success. Users know we are the first place to look for breaking news, and they’re coming in increasing numbers," said James Weeks, Executive Producer, New Media for Sky News.
"The enhancements we’re announcing today will help our journalism reach an even larger new audience.”
Available from the Apple iTunes App Store, Sky News is free and requires the iOS 3.0 Software Update or later.
