Sony BMG plans to launch a DRM-free online music service later this year, reports claim.
Interviewed by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper, Sony BMG CEO Rolf Schmidt-Holtz said his company is "working on an online music subscription service". The service, which will offer a subscription to a DRM-free catalogue of the record label’s tracks, at a price between €6-8 per month.
According to the report, subscribers will be able to own some of the songs, which will work with the iPod.
"The simplest option would be a flat rate under which a monthly payment would provide access to our entire music catalogue for all digital players, including Apple’s iPod."
