Spotify has denied Apple plans to buy the Swedish based streaming music service.

A Spotify spokesman told the BBC: "We're working hard to build the best music service we can and are in this for the long haul."

"We wouldn't normally comment on this kind of speculation, but we want to make it clear that we have absolutely no intention of selling Spotify."

Earlier this week TechCrunch reported an anonymous tip that Apple was in take-over negotiations with Spotify, as part of prolonged on-again, off-again discussions.

The same report suggested a similar deal would have seen Google buy Spotify, around the time Apple acquired music service Lala last year.

Spotify currently offers a mix of free and paid streaming music services including an premium iPhone application.

Spotify announced this week it is launching on Palm's smartphones including the Palm Pre or Pixi phone running webOS.
