Apple and AT&T may have hatched-up a secret plan to boost iPhone sales - by introducing the device as a pay-as-you-go option.

According to mobile phone website The Boy Genius Report, AT&T will introduce the phone on three plans: as a standard phone with a monthly usage payment; as a pre-paid mobile and to a hybrid scheme combining elements of both the company offers in the US.

The report speculates that offering the phone on a pre-paid plan will make it easy for users to buy and use an iPhone without being required to dump their old network, and without being committed to a monthly AT&T tariff.

"This means that if you're not up for an upgrade you will still be able to enjoy your Apple goodness," the report observes.
