Tap Tap Tap’s been quiet since Camera+ got yanked from the App Store last August. Almost... too quiet. Indeed, the company has not been slumbering these past four months, as it returned Monday with two big announcements: a major new version of Voices and good news for Camera+ fans.
But first, let’s check out the app you can get your hands on now. Voices 2 brings a number of new features, and one of them solves the main gripe from our review of the first version: not being able to preview your voice with different effects. The new version introduces an “echo” feature: speak your phrase into the microphone, then play back what your voice will sound like in different effects.
Voices 2 also gained nine new voice effects, including Harmony, Max, 8-Ball, Alien, Computer, Underwater, Ghost, Walkie-Talkie, and Tapestop. Support for AirPlay should bring new meaning to “throwing your voice,” and you can now share voice recordings via SMS in addition to existing options like Facebook, Twitter, and e-mail. All graphics have been reworked for the iPhone 4’s Retina display, and you shouldn’t have to wait as long to hear your new voice as processing should be much faster in the new version.
In its Voices 2 announcement, Tap Tap Tap also gave Camera+ users something to look forward to. The company says that its “biggest update yet” is finished and making its way through Apple’s review process. However, with the App Store staff powering down for the holidays soon (and with reviewers likely taking a little extra time after Tap Tap Tap’s last stunt), there’s no word on when the new Camera+ should show up.
Voices 2 is available for your vocal amusement now, though, and at half price in celebration of the launch. You can grab it for just $1 (or 59p if you're in the UK), and it requires an iPhone or iPod touch running iOS 3.1 or later.
