Speculation about an iPhone 5 has taken centre stage since Apple sent out official invitations confirming a 12 September event. But the sixth-generation iPhone might not be the only new product launch we’ll be treated to next week, as it is expected that Apple will introduce new iPods alongside it.

9To5Mac’s Mark Gurman believes that Apple will unveil two or three new or updates iPods at the event, all of which will be available in several colours.

He suggests that one of the new lines will come in two different size capacities, while the other two will have the option of just one size.

“With the current iPod nanos and iPod shuffles both available in multiple colours (and with the nano currently available in two capacities and the shuffle in one), we think that it is likely that new iPod nanos and iPod shuffles are launching next week,” writes Gurman.

The report points towards the possibility of a third line of colourful iPods, which is unlikely to be a new iPod touch. The report suggests that the third line could be an all-new iPod mini design with a larger display and a home button, like the one in the mockup above.

9To5Mac says that it hasn’t been able to confirm whether a new iPod touch will be unveiled next week.
