Over 20 per cent of personal media players, such as Apple's iPod, will be equipped with WiFi support by 2012.

Recent iSuppli research findings note that just 9 per cent of these devices have such connectivity at this time - while the analysts don't note how many iPod touch devices are included in that 9 per cent, they do anticipate such features will become more prevalent in future.

In fact, WiFi support will be more essential to consumers than Bluetooth or a touch screen, the analysts said, noting Bluetooth is included in under 4 per cent of personal media players.

The research also indicates the market for such devices is nearing saturation, predicting only a 4.3 per cent annual growth in 2012, which comes around to 197.1 million increase from 2007 to 243.3 million units in 2012.
