Just ahead of WWDC 2020, Apple has updated its stats on how many users are running the latest versions of iOS and iPadOS respectively. The figures are primarily intended as an indicator for developers to know where to focus their resources, but may be interesting for others too.
Apple's figures state that of all iPod touch and iPhone devices, 81% are currently running iOS 13, while 13% run iOS 12 and 6% use an earlier version.
However, if we only count iPhones/iPods that are active and were manufactured in the past four years, the proportion on iOS 13 jumps to 92% of users.
On iPad, meanwhile, 73% are running the latest iPadOS 13 software. But if we focus on active devices from the past four years, we see 93% on iPadOS 13, 5% on iOS 12 and only 1% on previous versions of iOS.
