Open source instant messaging application Adium has been updated to offer support for video chats.
Unlike iChat, Adium can connect to AIM, MSN, Yahoo, Google Talk, Jabber, AOL and many other instant messaging services, all from within a single client application.
The new version of the software is available now. It uses Flash-based video chat technologies developed by MeBeam. The technology has been rolled-into Adium and was made available for download - as a plug-in - this weekend.
The plug-in is cross platform, supports multiple video chat services (including iChat) and requires no additional software be installed on the 'invitee' side. It supports up to 15 people within a single video chat session, they are not required to be using the same instant messaging network.
The release of the video chat plug-in follows hot on the heels of the most recent update to the host application. Adium 1.1.4 was made available last week. Adium is free. Check it out here.
