Apple has released an essential upgrade to the Java software implemented in Mac OS X 10.5, introducing support for Java SE 6 v.1.6.0_05 to the OS.
Java SE 6 was first released in 2006. It offers a range of useful features for Java developers, though support for the standard wasn’t available in Leopard when it shipped.
The 57MB Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 1 remedies this, but does not replace the existing installation of J2SE 5.0 or change the default version of Java.
Apple released a developer preview of Java SE 6 for Leopard in December.
