Google has begun offering IMAP mail access to users of its Gmail service (called Google Mail in the UK).
As initially reported by MacNN, the company's Gmail support pages now offer users advice on how they can enable IMAP mail using the service.
This move allows users to access and manage their mail accounts from multiple clients. Google has also published instructions on using the new IMAP service with the iPhone.
The service supports SSL for encryption of incoming and outgoing mail, however, it isn't yet known if 'push' email is supported.
