Radiohead have teamed-up with iTunes to launch a Trent Reznor-inspired remix project.
Radiohead, iTunes and GarageBand are offering the chance to remix the band's new single, Nude, taken from the In Rainbows album.
You can buy a special mix of the song through iTunes now. This track isn't a track per se, but a collection of five 'stems', essentially the bass, voice, guitar, strings and effects and drum tracks that comprise the song.
Users who purchase the stems from iTunes during the first week they are made available will also be sent an access code to download a GarageBand file that's ready to open and work on in GarageBand or Logic.
Radiohead is inviting customers to mix the constituent stems in any way they wish, including adding new beats and intrumentation, or simply mixing the existing elements of the track.
It's not essential to use GarageBand to do the remix, all the stems are in iTunes Plus format and compatible with several music software platforms.
Finished mixes can be uploaded to Radiohead's website, where the public will listen to them and vote for their favourite remix (voting ends 1 May). You can also create a widget allowing votes from your own website, Facebook or MySpace page to be counted as 'mix votes'. Radiohead will listen to the best remixes and the best ten will be hosted on the home page for the project.
