Nexsan has announced a new storage solution designed for Apple’s new range of professional Macs, SATABeast Xi.

The solution offers a high density energy efficient storage, and is being billed as an ideal solution for users involved in real time high definition video editing for the broadcast production markets.

The SATABeast Xi offers up to 42TB of storage and demands just 4U of rack space. It features AutoMAID (Massive Array of Idle Disks) technology, an energy-saving solution that allows the storage system to place its disk drives in an idle state to conserve energy.

The storage system supports both Fibre Channel and iSCSI connectivity and its administrative tools have been designed to match the user interface expectations of Mac users, though the solution can be used with other platforms.

“Xserve directly targets one of our sweet spots in the market - data intensive multimedia applications that require the highest reliability and instantaneous access,” said Bob Woolery, senior vice president.

Nexsan SATABeast Xi is available from 15 March.
