Avanquest Software has introduced TurboCAD Mac 3 in two different versions.
TurboCAD MAC (£69.99) has over 275 2D design tools and 7,000 symbols giving users a package that will produce anything from hobby sketches to standards-compliant, production-ready drawings. The symbols needed for electrical, mechanical, bathroom, kitchen and construction are all included.
The latest iteration of the software includes a conversion tool that allows users to create precise 2D wireframe and hidden line drawings from imported 3D models. User preferences can be saved, including dialogue positions, colours, font sizes and keyboard short cuts.
The symbols palette offers over 7,000 drag-&-drop symbols. Any component of a drawing can be given a price, weight, part number, material, volume or manufacturer number with the software’s bill of materials tool.
The snaps tool allows the user to quickly locate X and Y coordinates, tangents and perpendiculars. Transparencies will mean users can snap text displays as smooth, anti, aliased text in all situations.
Along with Leopard compatibility, additional new features include: improved DWG/DXF AutoCAD 2008 filter; the capacity to publish screen images to HTML; a new Tape Measure tool for distance; fractional and dimensional display.
The professional version of the software, TurboCAD Mac PRO (£149.99), is also available. This lets users create the highest quality complex precision drawings and combines all the improvements of the version described above, with the addition of further tools to allow 3D modelling.
The advanced 3D modelling tool will allow the user to create product concepts and prototypes. The software includes OpenGL rendering, the latest ACIS 17 surface and solid modelling engine, 3Dconnexion support and over 11,000 2D/3D symbols and parts.
TurboCAD Mac has the highest compatibility of any Macintosh CAD software on the market. Files can be converted from Adobe Illustrator into desktop publishing formats to be used in marketing collateral, and supports AutoCAD 2008, STEP and SAT formats.
