Orbicule has introduced Undercover 2, the latest iteration of its innovative theft recovery system for Macs.
Chief among its new features is the dead-Mac-timeout feature: if a Mac is not connected to the net for more than two months, it will automatically be locked. This crafty move makes it far more likely users will be able to eventually track down Macs that are stolen but never connected to the internet.
Undercover now only connects to the Internet when a network change occurs, reducing network traffic while making the recovering system even more aggressive.
Memory footprint and processor demands have been dramatically reduced, Leopard compatibility has been introduced and the software offers dozens of smaller tweaks, the company said.
Undercover 2 is a free upgrade for registered 1.x users.
A single user license costs $49, a household license is available for $59. Student discounts and site licenses are available.
