Powerful and widely used scanning software, VueScan, has been updated for Leopard by developers, Hamrick Software.

VueScan 8.4.46 adds support for five new Epson scanners and the application – which offers scanner drivers for even those scanners unsupported by Mac OS X – has been downloaded five million times.

VueScan is available for Mac OS X, Windows and Linux. It offers advanced features including options for scanning faded slides and prints and automatically adjusting images to optimum colour balance. It includes built-in IT8 colour calibration of scanners, batch scanning and other advanced features, including PDF output.

"Many of our customers are Apple Mac users, and use their scanners quite frequently. It is important to them that we upgrade frequently, and that all of the 750 scanners that we support are kept up to date with the latest releases," said Ed Hamrick, president of Hamrick Software.

"Most recently, we have been getting new customers from users of Leopard and Windows Vista, since many vendor scanner drivers don't work on Leopard and Windows Vista. New customers also buy VueScan because it provides higher quality scans and has many more features than the software that comes with most scanners."

VueScan is available in two editions, Standard Edition at $39.95 (£19.18) and Professional Edition at $79.95 (£38.39). The pro version adds unlimited free upgrades, advanced IT8 color calibration and support for raw scan files. A trial version is also available.
