Hot on the heels of news of a new Xserve cluster in Louisiana follows new of a new such cluster at GeoCenter.
This new supercomputer comprises 100 dual 2GHz G5 Xserves, each equipped with 1.5GB RAM, and connected using gigabit ethernet. It will be used for running distributed processing applications from the centre's seismic processing system reports MacNN.
The centre has published extensive information detailing how it built and manages the cluster. The centre claims itself to have been able to develop techniques that "reduce the deployment process" by booting each system from an external disc.
GeoCenter was established in January of 1980. It provides seismic data processing services to the oil and gas industry.
