Adaptec has added more USB 2.0 connectivity solutions to the Mac market, announcing a two-port USB 2.0 CardBus adaptor for laptops and a USB 2.0 hub.
Jeff Loebbaka, vice president and general manager of Adaptec's Desktop Solutions Group, said: "With the addition of USB2connect for notebooks, Adaptec offers the most complete line of USB 2.0 solutions." The portables solution includes a high-speed dual-port USB 2.0 CardBus adaptor.
Adaptec's Xhub is a plug-&-play solution for connecting multiple USB 2.0 devices simultaneously. It will also connect USB 1.1 devices, though these are limited by the ceiling speed of the standard. USB 2.0 runs at transfer speeds of 480Mbps, 40 times faster than USB 1.1. Three models are available, the Xhub 4, Xhub4 Plus and Xhub7 Plus. Carrying four or seven USB 2.0 ports, these hubs are available for £65, £70 and £126 respectively.
Though none of these products yet ship with Mac OS X or Classic USB 2.0 drivers in the box, Adaptec has announced its commitment to support Mac OS X in its products. More details of Adaptec's support for USB 2.0 and the Mac are available on Adaptec's Web site.
