Adobe is cutting costs by asking 2,000 US workers to take the first week off in July.

The measure follows a similar move by Sun Microsystems.

Staff must use their annual leave to take the week off. Cheryl Edwards, an Adobe spokeswoman, said: "Many employees had planned vacations around the July 4 holiday anyway." Only Adobe's US workers are affected.

Adobe has confirmed that it is achieving its targets of a 15 per cent revenue growth rate and 31 per cent operating profit for the quarter ending June. The company has warned, however, that sales may be affected by the slowing economy.
