Agilent Technologies has introduced new optical mouse technology.

This means future optical mice that use Agilent's reference kit will be capable of capturing more surface area per image in order to make mouse movement smoother and more fluid. The technology also makes for more accurate cursor control on 17- and 19-inch monitors.

Technical data: The new design provides image-processing power of 5.8 megapixel of surface information per second for better tracking. The sensors support 800 counts per inch resolution and can handle movements at speeds up to 40-inches per second.

The company released its first optical mouse sensor in 1999, since when it has shipped 300 million sensors.
