AltaVista has expanded into Europe by launching regional versions of its search engine for the UK, Sweden and Germany, the company announced today.
The additions mean AltaVista now has more than 20 partner sites worldwide.
AltaVista UK offers information from The Independent, Financial Times Personal Finance, Reuters and Sporting Life. The site covers 95 per cent of UK Web sites, or about 17 million pages, according to the statement.
AltaVista Sweden, is a Swedish language site cataloging almost 12 million Swedish Web sites. AltaVista Deutschland is a German language search engine. The Swedish and UK sites will be based on the Open Directory Project and RealNames.
AltaVista had more than 40 million users and 1.6 billion page views worldwide in October, according to the statement.
