Apple has appointed Cheryl Vedoe as vice president (VP) of education marketing and solutions.

Vedoe, who was previously the VP of Apple's education division, will report directly to Apple CEO Steve Jobs .

Jobs said: “The education market is a top priority for Apple, and we intend to regain market share in 2001. With her extensive experience in education and technology, Cheryl is a strong addition to Apple’s education team.”

Education, education, education The appoint follows follows Apple's announcement, reported exclusively by Macworld, that Apple is redirecting its education strategy to boost disappointing sales in the education market.

Vedoe said: “I am happy to once again be part of Apple’s education efforts. There is enormous untapped potential for technology to enhance learning in our schools.”

Before rejoining Apple, Vedoe was CEO of Post Communications - a venture-capital backed start-up, providing email-marketing technology and services. She was also founder and CEO of Tenth Planet, a developer of software for primary schools.

Vedoe has also held a variety of engineering and marketing-management positions at Sun Microsystems, Apollo Computer and Digital Equipment.
