Apple has purchased a data centre in Newark for a price estimated between $45 million and $50 million.
The company has acquired the 107,000 square foot facility, which was originally built for MCI WorldCom.
The San Jose Business Journal also reports that Apple has recently "signed deals for the entire 116,830-square-foot office complex at 10400-10450 Ridgeview Ct in Cupertino."
Apple's investment in new data centre resources comes as iTunes song sale downloads last week reached one billion songs.
News of the purchase also emerges as Apple pundits speculate that the company may launch a movie download service in the US during a special event at its Cupertino headquarters on February 28.
