Ex-Apple colour management evangelist John Zimmerer has been appointed new market development manager at X-Rite, specialists in hardware, software and services that measure, communicate and simulate colour.
Apple appointed Zimmerer as colour and imaging product marketing manager in August 2001. While at Apple Zimmerer established the key feature requirements that lead the development of Apple's colour and imaging technologies, including image capture, ColorSync, quartz, and printing technologies in the Mac OS X desktop operating system.
In his role at X-Rite, Zimmerer will manage the identification and development of emerging markets and technologies for the company's core colour business.
X-Rite VP of marketing and product development James Weaver said: "We are excited to have John Zimmerer as part of the X-Rite team. Having come from a leader in digital media to the leader in colour management, this will be a natural move for John. His experience and expertise in colour technologies will help us identify new and emerging markets, enabling X-Rite to continue marketshare growth, especially in the digital imaging market."
Apple has a history of taking some time to fill the colour evangelist position; Zimmerer replaced colour expert Ken Applebaum many months after he had departed the company. Apple is yet to announce a successor to Zimmerer.
