MP3.com Europe has been selected as the focus of Apple's online marketing drive to promote sales of its MP3 player – the iPod – reports claim.

Details of a promotion hosted on the music portal's UK, German and French-based sites by Apple will appear in site advertising and MP3.com users' emails.

MP3.com will also host a competition to win one of the devices. The Apple Store will use MP3.com's 'singleserving' emails for the campaign. About 550,000 music fans will be targeted, according to reports in NetImperative.

MP3.com provides a range of products and services, including music personalization, comprehensive genre and artist charts, and customized business-to-business services such as audio hosting and music licensing.

Apple's iPod is available in 5-, 10-, and 20GB versions, from the UK Apple Store, pricing starts from £259 (price includes VAT).
