The company saw its US-market share grow 273 per cent in the quarter, with 5,700 units shipped. Apple's professional Xserve began shipping early in that quarter. The company climbed to fifth place in the market. It held just 0.4 per cent of the server market in third quarter 2002, with 1,525 units shipped.
Apple still has a few percentage points to gain: its 1.2 per cent of the server market compares to Dell's 26.3 per cent, HP's 25.9 per cent, IBM's 11.7 per cent and the once dominant Sun's with 6.9 per cent.
The market for servers saw a 12.2 per cent increase in the US in the quarter, with worldwide market share expanding 3.1 per cent, the analysts claim.
