Apple has beefed-up its education-only laptop bundles deal for teachers.

The company is now offering a new selection of hardware/software bundles as part of the National Grid for Learning's (NGfL) Laptops for Teachers initiative.

Apple's offerings include iBooks or PowerBooks and cost from £935 (excluding VAT). "All the bundles offered under the terms of the scheme exceed the minimum specification set by the UK's Department for Education and Skills (DFES).

Three bundle options exist:

iBook 14.1" Standard Bundle (£935):
The computer is a 1.42GHz iBook G4 with 512MB of RAM, 60GB drive, built-in AirPort Extreme and a SuperDrive. The bundle includes a two-year AppleCare Protection Plan, Norton AntiVirus, AppleWorks 6, a Kensington bag and an Apple mouse.

iBook 14.1" with Microsoft Office Bundle (£1.029) :
As above but also with Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac.

PowerBook G4 Bundle (£1,399):
The computer is a 1.67GHz PowerBook G4 with a 15.2-inch screen, 512MB of RAM, 80GB drive, built-in Bluetooth and AirPort Extreme and a SuperDrive. The bundle also includes a two-year AppleCare Protection Plan, Norton AntiVirus, AppleWorks 6, a Kensington bag and an Apple mouse.

All prices exclude VAT. The AppleCare Protection Plan adds two years to the statutory one-year manufacturer's guarantee.
