Apple has released Max OS X Modem Update.
The update resolves an issue in which a built-in modem cannot dial up after updating or installing Mac OS X 10.2.
There are two types of error message; the message "Internet Connect could not open the communications device" is displayed when a dial up connection is attempted.
The Internet Connection Log displays this error message; "Failed to open /dev/cu.modem: Device busy."
Another symptom is if users have problems dialling up in Mac OS X 10.2, but find the modem works normally in Mac OS 9.
Apple lists the Macs affected on its Web site. The company says if these symptoms have not been experienced, there is no need to download the Mac OS X Modem Update.
