Apple is reportedly mulling over the inclusion of ads within iTunes, according to Ad Age.
The report considers that while such a move may attract interest from advertisers keen to access the iPod market, it could be a turn-off for iTunes users.
The report suggests the visual ads may be connected to podcasts, perhaps furnishing podcast producers with a revenue stream.
"Ads will appear while users listen to podcasts," the report explains.
If the scheme is implemented, ads will appear in the lower left-hand corner of iTunes, presumably where album art shows up today.
"It's a big step for the service, which has so far limited ad intrusions to audio spots embedded in some of the podcasts offered via iTunes. ESPN Radio, which supplies some of iTunes' most popular ad-supported sports podcasts, is working with the service on the new advertising offering," the report states.
