Apple has forced a Mac software developer to withdraw its iTunes plug-in that allows users to transfer songs from any iPod to their iTunes library.

iPodDownload creator Sylvain Demongeot was asked to removed the software from circulation by his Internet Service Provider (ISP), who apparently intervened following an appeal from Apple.

In order to prohibit the stealing of music Apple only allows an iPod to be associated with one iTunes library at a time.

MacCentral points out some of the limitations of Apple's prohibiting the sharing of music in this manner. "Apple provides no mechanism to recover those songs from the iPod itself, in the event your hard drive is erased, for example, or if you accidentally delete a song from your iTunes library," writes Peter Cohen.
