Apple has released new security updates for Lion and Mountain Lion users.

Apple recommends that all OS X 10.7 Lion and OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion users download the updates, which were pushed out on Tuesday.

The exact issues addressed by the important security updates are not yet known, as Apple does not disclose, discuss or confirm any details about security issues until they have been fully investigated and patches have been made available to users. Apple has said, however, that the update "improves the security of Mac OS X."

We expect Apple to update its Apple security updates page soon to provide further information about the update.

The updates are available to download from the Mac App Store now. Alternatively, Mountain Lion users can download Security Update 2013-003 from Apple's Support page. The update requires OS X 10.8.4 or later and has a 20.4 MB file size.

Lion users running OS X 10.7.5 or later can download the Security Update 2013-002 from Apple's Support page, which has a file size of 57.59MB.
