Apple is no longer automatically awarding all its products on the US Apple Store a five-star rating.
Instead Apple products are not rated at all.
At the beginning of November, the company added a rating feature to its online store that allowed customers to write reviews of products and award them one to five stars. Users were only ever able to review third-party products.
At the time Apple said that it had automatically given its own products a five-star rating because "We think they're great." Adding: "Would you trust us to display less than perfect ratings on our own products? We didn't think so!"
Following negative publicity of this feature Apple removed the "trust" explanation for its decision but until yesterday the five-star ratings had remained in place.
