Apple has admitted that its online support and Knowledge Base services are crawling, due to a change in the way its services are accessed.
Users are being forced to wait when connecting to Apple's Knowledge Base, Discussions, and My Info.
The company admits: "The sign-in application was changed by our IT organization a few weeks back, removing the ability to set the persistent AppleID cookie, forcing all customers to log-in every time before proceeding to Knowledge Base in order to get the session-based cookie (ACID) required for access. This was done to address a security concern."
In a note on the corporate Web site, Apple suggests some workarounds to speed up the service.
It promises better support to come: "Apple's IT organizations are working to add additional capacity to the sign-in servers and have addressed the security issue via another means. They are working to restore the ability to set Apple ID from sign-in shortly."
