Apple has been ranked 49th in a round-up of the world's most valuable brands.

Business Week valued Apple's brand at $5.46 billion, down 17 per cent from last year's value of $6.59 billion. The computer manufacturer was placed 49 out of 100 global brands.

Companies in the survey had to be valued at over a billion dollars, be global in nature, and have publicly available data to carry out the assessment.

Computer companies in the survey's top ten included Microsoft and Power PC manufacturer IBM, ranked two and three respectively. Intel was positioned at six.
