The looming year-end has prompted praise for Apple from IT industry watchers.
As pointed out by MacCentral, US magazine PRWeek recently polled its readers to find the best company/group publicity. Apple came fourth, behind Cisco, Intel and the US women’s national soccer team.
Microsoft’s dubious achievement was to take the top spot as the organization receiving the worst publicity in 1999.
Upside Magazine, meanwhile, placed Apple interim CEO Steve Jobs top of its 1999 Elite 100 list of movers and shakers in the technology industry. Jobs secured the honour because his marketing savvy “has made Apple’s colourful computers as fashionable as Gap’s cargo khakis - and made the competition nervous about its bland boxes”.
