Apple has released Java updates for Mac OS X 10.4.2 and 10.3.9.

These updates protect against recently-found vulnerabilities which could be exploited by hackers to bypass certain security restrictions, disclose sensitive information, or gain elevated privileges.

Apple’s Java 1.3.1 and 1.4.2 Release 2 is available for Tiger systems and is a 42MB download.

It is available using Software Update or by direct download from the company.

The update: “Delivers improved reliability and compatibility for Java on Mac OS X v10.4. This release includes Java 2 Platform Standard Edition versions 1.3.1_16 and 1.4.2_09,” the company said. It improves the functionality of J2SE 1.4.2 on Tiger and updates

Also available for Mac OS X 10.3.9 is Apple’s Java Security Update 10.3.9, a 41.5MB download.

“Java Security Update delivers a number of security enhancements and is recommended for all Macintosh users. This update includes the following components: Java 1.3.1; Java 1.4.2,” explained Apple.
