Apple has released updated firmware for the SuperDrive included in some recent Macs.
The 7.3MB download is described as a fix for, "burning speeds when writing to certain recordable DVD media." It's available for download from the Apple support website.
Apple warns that users should not reset, shut down, or turn off power to your computer while updating the firmware. "Doing so may damage your SuperDrive," states the notes accompanying the software.
The update requires Mac OS X 10.3.9 or 10.4.6 Tiger. It also requires one of the following Macs:
PowerBook G4 (12 -inch 1.5GHz)
PowerBook G4 (15-inch 1.33GHz, 1.5GHz, or 1.67GHz)
PowerBook G4 (17-inch 1.67GHz)
iMac G5 (17-inch 1.6GHz or 1.8GHz)
iMac G5 (20-inch 1.8GHz)
