Apple has updated Final Cut Pro, its digital-video editing software, to version 1.2.5.

The upgrade adds support for the 16:9 wide-screen format, reference movies and YUV, which allows digital video to be processed without being converted to RGB.

Phil Schiller, Apple’s vice-president of worldwide product marketing, said: "Final Cut Pro 1.2.5 is an industrial-strength digital video dream."

The addition of reference movies to Final Cut’s arsenal is intended to save users precious rendering time and disk space by minimizing file sizes.

The upgrade is a free download for registered Final Cut users.
