Apple has updated its iBook G4 lineup.
Available products include both 12.1-inch and a 14.1-inch iBook at 1GHz, and a 14.1-inch model with a 1.2 GHz processor. Apple is also making SuperDrives available as a build to order option for the 14-inch model iBooks – for just £40.
The company has increased the memory capacity of its iBook G4s, which can hold up to twice as much fast DDR memory as before – up to 1.25GB. Each iBook ships with 256 DDR SDRAM as standard.
The new iBook G4 lineup includes support for advanced wireless connectivity with AirPort Extreme 54Mbps wireless networking and Bluetooth. A slot-load Combo drive for burning CDs and watching DVDs is standard, although a SuperDrive can be added to the two 14-inch models.
The iBooks still offer up to six hours of battery life. Graphics are powered by an ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 card with 32MB of dedicated DDR memory and AGP 4X support for gaming and watching DVDs.
Every model supports optional AirPort Extreme 54 Mbps wireless networking – this is built-in on the 1.2 GHz 14-inch configuration. Customers can order an internal Bluetooth module if they like.
All iBook G4 models offer FireWire 400, USB 2.0 and a built-in 56K v.92 modem and Ethernet (10/100BASE-T).
The iBooks come with iLife '04, Mac OS X version 10.3 Panther, and a collection of productivity and entertainment titles including AppleWorks, Quicken 2004 for Mac, WorldBook Encyclopedia 2004 Edition and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4.
The 12-inch iBook costs £799, offers a 1.0 GHz PowerPC G4, and a 30GB Ultra ATA hard drive. Two versions of the 14-inch are available – the 1.0 GHz PowerPC G4 iBook, costs £899 and includes a 40GB Ultra ATA hard drive, the 1.2 GHz PowerPC G4 iBook, offers a 60GB Ultra ATA hard drive and costs £1,049.
