Apple is running an innovative two-part online advertisement on selected sites.
The ad, which exhorts Windows users not to give up on Vista features a side bar starring Justin Long (Mac) and John Hodgman (PC). The two discuss an on-page ad component that sits at the top of the screen in the banner position. This states: "Don't give up on Vista."
Hodgman ruefully confesses some users are having "issues" with Vista, sadly admitting that many such users are "downgrading" to XP, with some moving to Mac. "This will turn the tide," says PC.
Hodgman then hits a switch that causes selected letters in the banner ad to illuminate, unfortunately these are wired wrong, and rather than stressing the word "Don't", these actually stress the phrase, "Give up" (on Vista). Try as he might the hapless PC can't get his rallying signal to work. You can watch the latest ad on YouTube here.
The ad was created by Omnicom Group's TBWA\Media Arts Lab, but unfortunately has caused some browsers to crash, leading some sites to pull the ad from their online properties. The ads are scheduled to run next week on CNN and the Wall Street Journal websites.
