Apple's desktop Macs took five per cent of US computer sales for May, according to a report published by NPDTechworld
HP took the lion's share of the US desktop market – 34.9 per cent. Second place went to Compaq (25 per cent), Emachines took 10.7 per cent and IBM 10.5 per cent. Apple was in fifth place with 5.7 per cent.
The dollar volume of the market was $444,348,100, according to the analysis firm. The figures include retail, mail order and corporate reseller data. NPDTechworld uses data taken from market analysts NPD Intellect, as well as information taken from its Online Panel.
