Apple may have plans for a new ultra-wide screen iBook, according to
A report on the Far East IT industry website claims Apple's existing iBook manufacturer, Asustek, will begin manufacturing a new 15.4-inch iBook model, prepped to ship in 2006, as well as 12.1-inch models of iBook and PowerBook.
Apple's PowerBook manufacturing partner Quanta Computer has also picked up a lucrative deal from Apple to manufacture iBooks.
This means Apple's existing iBook-maker, Asustek, has lost its status as sole iBook maker. Quanta will begin shipping 14.1-inch iBooks as "early as the fourth quarter 2006", said DigiTimes.
"Asustek estimates that it will ship 1.5 million OEM notebooks in 2005, of which 1.2-1.3 million units will go to Apple," said DigiTimes.
