Apple has updated AppleWorks, its application that combines word processing, page layout, painting, spreadsheet, database, and presentation programs.

Version 6.2.9 is a free update for Mac OS X users. It supports mice with scroll wheels and improves the performance and reliability of AppleWorks’ presentation and spreadsheet environments, according to Apple.

It also offers improved printing and resolves issues using web based templates and clip-art on networks using proxy servers.

AppleWorks 6.2.8 is also available for those who have yet to upgrade to OS X. It also enhances the reliability of AppleWorks' spreadsheet environment and resolves issues with web based templates and clip-art on networks using proxy servers.

Some UK AppleWorks users are experiencing difficulties uploading the update. Apple UK advises that users ensure that they select the International-English UK version.

Apple's accompanying notes suggest that: "if you previously installed AppleWorks 6 on your computer using the custom installation option choosing only the "AppleWorks 6 application" and omitted the writing tools" – in other words, installed a UK version – "re-run the installer, choose Custom Install once again, and choose to install the writing tools. This will ensure the AppleWorks 6.2.7 updater will perform properly".
